Grove of the Patriarchs

Last Saturday we went to the Grove of the Patriarchs in Mt. Rainier National Forest. The Grove is at the entrance to Steven's Canyon in the far SE corner of the park.

Here we are on the trail.

The Grove sits in the middle of the Ohanapecosh river and the last time it was subject to a fire was over 1000 years ago. Consequently, the trees there have been growing and growing and growing...

This is a pciture of the river that runs along the early trail. The waters are a clear emerald green and totally amazing! Glacial runoff to boot, can you say cold? I walked in the water a bit and still can't feel my feet...

Yeah, these trees are huge and old. Plenty of good energy here!

Maven took me up to Daniel Smith's in Seattle and set me up! I got Prismacolor pencils of two different types and have been setting to work. Here are a couple of the things I have drawn...you probably won't see them in any museums anytime soon...lol
















I drew this while we were staying in Leavenworth the weekend before my birthday. Used the pencil out of the hotel nightstand and their stationary...Maeven was sleeping off the effects of hours full of winetasting....heheh
















This picture I just finished with my Prismacolor semi acrylic pencils. They work like colored chalk and are so fun!


Now I am undertaking the drawing of a cherry blossom cluster from a photo I took of one of our trees. I will post it once I am done!
